CO2 transportation is a key link in the offshore carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) industrial chain, and it is a core link for the large-scale construction of offshore CCUS projects. Among them, supercritical-dense phase CO2 is considered the most economically efficient pipeline transportation phase at present, because it combines the high-density characteristics of liquids with the high-diffusivity and low-viscosity characteristics of gases. Taking a million-ton offshore CO2 storage project in the East China Sea as an example, this paper focused on the flow assurance study of subsea supercritical-dense phase CO2 pipelines containing impurities. In the study, the HYSYS was first used to analyze the phase behavior and obtain the critical parameters of CO2 containing impurities, providing fundamental data support for the design of pipeline transportation parameters; then, the OLGA was applied to systematically analyze the steady-state transportation process of the CO2 pipeline and further simulate and analyze the flow characteristics of transient processes such as shutdown, restart, and blowdown. Based on the analysis results, targeted pipeline safety operation recommendations were proposed, which can provide a technical reference for the flow assurance study of subsea CO2 pipelines.
