In the process of transporting dense-phase CO2 through subsea pipelines, complex transient flow variation in the pipeline may occur due to practical operational requirements on site, which may lead to abnormal operating conditions of the pipeline. Therefore, conducting a flow assurance simulation study is of great significance for pipeline design. Based on the analysis of the physical properties of impure dense-phase CO2, the simulation on sensitivity analysis of pipeline operation, planned pipeline release, and pressurization before initial start-up was carried out by OLGA software. Taking an offshore oil field engineering project as an example, the sensitive factors of the pipeline in steady-state operation were summarized, and the influence of different valve openings on the pressure, temperature, and liquid holdup along the pipeline during the release process was analyzed. The variation of pressure and temperature during the pressurization process was monitored. The results indicate that minimizing flow fluctuations during pipeline operation, reducing the valve opening during the relief process to lower the relief flow rate, and selecting multi-stage pressurization measures for pressurization operation can ensure the stability and safety of pipeline operation and avoid the risk of low-temperature effects.
